Emerson professors#039; union willing to fight for racial fairness

The Emerson College Chapter of the American Association of University Professors applauds iThe Beacon/i for its continued attention to the issue of diversity in the Emerson community, particularly in the faculty. We are also concerned about the tenure denials for two of our African American colleagues last year.

Unfortunately, the tenure process is no longer part of the union contract. But there are other ways the union can, in the spirit of shared governance with Emerson’s administration, contribute to these essential issues.

The union can assist in making Emerson better reflect the heterogeneous world around us. It can also help ensure that all of our colleagues have the opportunity to succeed upon joining the faculty. The union is dedicated to helping in any way it can, vis
