Busy bodies: entrepreneurship at Emerson

A recent article in the Wall Street Journal said that more teens and young adults are taking matters into their own hands when it comes to creating jobs.

According to the article, less than 30 percent of teenagers 16 to 19 years old are expected to find paying jobs this summer — down from 52 percent in 2000 and nearly the same as the summer 2010 rate of 29.6 percent.

As a result, 37 percent of 1.9 million high school seniors are interested in becoming private business owners as surveyed by the National Research Center for College and University Admissions, Lee’s Summit, Mo.

We wanted to see if these numbers also applied to Emerson. We surveyed students via Facebook and Twitter and got a turn out of 79 reponses — our results are to the right.

Emersonians show interest, but apparently sticking it to the man isn’t as popular as working for the man.
