SGA funds Mercutio Troupe

The Student Government Association granted an appeal Tuesday to Mercutio Troupe for its production of Into the Woods and reviewed discussions with the Board of Trustees.

Katherine Shaver, Mercutio Troupe’s treasurer and sophomore performing arts major, said the musical is a large-scale production. Since they could not perform at the Cabaret, they had to look elsewhere. SGA granted Mercutio $1,650 to cover the rental of the Greene Theatre in the Tufte Performance and Production Center.

“We are basically working through our processes to attack something that is beyond us in a way, and that’s kind of what we like to do as a troupe, and we’d like some help to do that,” Rachel Hunsinger, the  production manager and junior performing arts major said.

Emily Solomon, SGA executive president and the Board of Trustees undergraduate representative, met with the trustees to address student issues, such as the inclusiveness of study abroad programs.

“I also discussed … making sure the buildings are designed and constructed with students in mind,” Solomon said.

She said the needs of people with disabilities should be met in the new buildings.

Lauren Granada, a freshman journalism major, was unanimously elected as secondary vice treasurer. Her responsibilities will include assisting with the financial paperwork.

SGA closed the session to discuss the Budget Priorities Planning Advisory Committee. The information from the meeting will be released at a later date.
