Subcontractors removed pieces of Walker Building’s exterior this past weekend in preparation for future maintenance.

Director of Construction Management Michael Faia wrote in an email the subcontractors placed scaffolding around sections of the building to protect passersby, and the structure should be removed by this weekend.

Faia also wrote the removed pieces of the exterior will be duplicated and installed during the summer. This process is meant to ensure the building will look identical after undergoing renovations.

Senior Associate Vice President for Real Estate Arthur Mombourquette also wrote that future work on the facade will include “grinding out and replacing any loose mortar between the bricks … and repairing or replacing any damaged terracotta elements.”

This work follows the replacement of some of the building’s windows last year.
