Professor awarded Pulitzer

Megan Marshall, a writing, literature, and publishing professor, won a Pulitzer Prize for biography on Monday for her book Margaret Fuller: A New American Life. “I feel greatly honored to have received this award for my account of Fuller’s life and grateful for Emerson College’s support of my writing and teaching,” Marshall wrote in an email to the Beacon. Her book, published in March 2013, highlights Fuller’s life as an advocate and pioneering journalist — she was the first American woman foreign correspondent. “I think Margaret Fuller really won this prize,” Marshall wrote. Marshall is on leave for the spring semester to work on a short biography on 20th century poet Elizabeth Bishop, a Worcester native, poet, and, like Marshall, a Pulitzer Prize winner.
