SGA appoints PR chair

The Student Government Association voted unanimously to name Capri DeBiccari, a junior writing, literature and publishing and marketing communication double major, as the new Public Relations Chair. This seat has been vacant since the beginning of the semester.

Before she was elected, the council opened the floor and allowed members to ask DeBiccari questions so they could become more familiar with her and her intentions as PR Chair before finalizing the vote.

Jasmine Reyes, a junior journalism major and the SGA elections chair, asked DeBiccari how she plans to raise awareness about elections. DeBiccari proposed that SGA start advertising through cover photos on Facebook.

“I know that this is super helpful for sororities and fraternities,” said DeBiccari. “And I think we should bring this to SGA.”

Chief Justice Shekinah Beepat, a junior marketing communication major, asked DeBiccari to share specific ideas she has.

DeBiccari said she plans to start small with posters and work her way up to mastering social media as a tool to raise awareness about SGA and ultimately open up the conversation for students who are unfamiliar with the group.

Executive President Emily Solomon, a sophomore visual and media arts major, said she is happy to have DeBiccari on the board.

“I’m really hoping Capri can bring some of her fantastic energy to the position,” said Solomon in an interview with the Beacon. “SGA needs a serious PR boost on campus—in terms of being visible and helping students understand what we do.”

Correction, Oct. 23: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated DeBiccari’s major and Reyes’ class year. DeBiccari is a writing, literature and publishing and marketing communication double major, not a writing, literature and publishing major. Reyes is a junior, not a sophomore.
