Alum’s show wins Golden Globe

The CW Network’s show Jane the Virgin recently won a Golden Globe award, and a member of the show behind the scenes has ties to Emerson.

Gina Rodriguez, who plays the lead role in Jane the Virgin, won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a TV Comedy on Jan. 11.

Traci Blackwell, a programming executive for Jane the Virgin, received her master’s degree from Emerson in May 2014.

“Gina is one of the most sweet and humble people I have ever met,” Blackwell said, according to the college. “I was so happy.”

Blackwell has been working on shows on the CW Network, like 90210, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural, and received her degree in communication studies after she had a directed study with Professor Richard West, according to the college.

Blackwell started her work at Emerson several years ago, and she was hired by Paramount Pictures during her final semester to work in the marketing department.

Blackwell said she took advantage of Emerson’s Los Angeles program and campus to finish her work.

“I would not be in this job if it were not for Emerson’s LA Program,” Blackwell said, according to Emerson’s website. “I’m really grateful. It’s so valuable.”

Blackwell currently works as a programming executive on several CW shows as senior vice president of current programs.
