If you haven’t already heard about Tulia, Texas, get ready. You will.
As a town of 5,000, Tulia is barely a blip in the hazy heat that hangs on the North Texas horizon; but in the summer of 1999, a deep miscarriage of justice was perpetrated on 46 of the town’s residents.
Almost all of the 46 people involved were black, all allegedly sold cocaine, and all stood accused by one undercover police officer, who couldn’t provide much corroborating evidence of any wrongdoing beyond his own testimony.
