While Emerson students may have plenty of Halloween parties to go to, everyone’s got some gaps in their schedule. We at The Beacon have dug up (graverobbed) six last-minute plans to keep the festivities going all weekend. Put on your K-pop Demon Hunters outfit and light a cig, you pretentious Emersonians, and look at what I got for you.
Emerson Phantasmagorium – On Oct. 30, from 8–11 p.m. – Lions Den
For the main event of hALLoween at Emerson, the Lion’s Den and the Loft will be transformed into a “multi-sensory Phantasmagorium,” as Emerson itself describes it. The Phantasmagorium will feature an array of spooky activities: frightening original ghost story readings from Emerson WLP students, a costume contest with prizes, tarot and psychic readings, a photo booth, two stages with performances, and some creepy beverages for all to enjoy.
Even if you have a non-Emerson friend in town or a Boston University sneaky link, Phantasmagorium takes registered visitors.
Trick or Treat Truman Time – on Oct. 31, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. – Piano Row 240
Everyone’s favorite campus dog, Truman the Beagle, is joining in on the festivities. Truman Time offers a window of opportunity at the Healing & Advocacy Center to play with the friendly pup.
D&D Demon Halloween Party- on Oct 31, at 7–9 p.m. – Owens Multipurpose Room, 172 Tremont.
Venture into the basement of 172 on Halloween night—if you dare. Join Anime@Emerson, the Pride Coalition, and Level Up Guild for a Dungeons and Dragons one-session campaign, where all in attendance must survive the night in an endless mansion maze. Their campaign will also be aided by free snacks, drinks, and some festive decorations.
BLAIR – on Oct. 31, 6–11 p.m. – 1 City Hall Square, Boston, MA 02203
If you need to calm down from scares this weekend, why not check out some free live music? BLAIR, a Halloween party and concert highlighting female artists in the Greater Boston Area, is ready to rock City Hall Plaza with three live performances and three DJ sets.
According to BLAIR’s mission statement, their goal is to “secure a high-profile independent artist that embodies unapologetic Black feminine energy and place them center stage alongside prominent creative women in Boston.”
Anycia, BLAIR’s headlining act hailing from Atlanta, released her project Grady Baby back in July, featuring artists such as Quavo and GloRilla. On top of musical performances, BLAIR will have local vendors selling festive merchandise, as well as a food truck village if you get the munchies.
Halloween Journalism Mixer – on Oct. 30, 6–8 p.m. – Owens Multipurpose Room 172 Tremont
Do my fellow journalists even read this thing…? Whatever—the Emerson chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), and Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) are throwing a Halloween Mixer, and everyone is invited!
The coalition of campus chapters is having an evening of spooky activities—-snacks included, of course.
Last-minute trip to Salem – North Station, Commuter Rail, Newburyport/Rockport line outbound
Salem…is not near campus—but North Station is! If you hate campus fun and the city, I guesssss you could go to another city built for a population of fewer than 50 thousand, which hosts hundreds of thousands of tourists during the month of October. While I am a bitter, grumpy Massachusetts local, I will say if you haven’t been before, it’s worth checking out. I’d recommend leaving early in the morning and trying to get a feel for the place before it becomes mobbed. It truly is a scary place, filled with great costumes, history, and the scariest of all, an hour-plus wait time for a table.
