College announces Commencement speakers

Novelist Alice Sebold will give the undergraduate address at this year’s commencement ceremony. Poet and essayist Danielle Legros Georges will give the graduate speech, according to an email sent to the Emerson community from Andrew Tiedemann, vice president for communications and marketing.

Sebold is the author of novel The Lovely Bones and memoir Lucky. Both were on the New York Times’ bestseller list.

Legros Georges is Boston’s Poet Laureate in the mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture, and a professor at Lesley University. She graduated from Emerson’s communication studies department in 1986.

Sebold, Legros Georges, and investigative reporter Juan Gonzalez will receive honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees. Gonzalez is a columnist for the New York Daily News and a co-host of daily morning news show Democracy Now.

Commencement will be held on May 8 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.
