Emerson administrators announced London Now, the newest addition to the college’s growing number of study abroad opportunities, in an email to students, parents, and staff Friday afternoon.

The eight-week summer session, offered through Arcadia University, allows students to take one or two classes in literature, theatre, or visual and media arts at the school’s London campus. Emerson pre-approved the transfer of credits for students in the program, stated in the email sent by Andrew Tiedemann, vice president of communications and marketing. 

David Griffin, the director of international study and external programs, declined to comment about the program. 

Jacki Daddona, the manager for the England program at Arcadia, said this travel opportunity is very unique in its use of the city. 

“We really use the city of London as a focus and theme in and outside the classroom,” said Daddona in a phone interview. “If you are taking a play critiquing class, we will take you to a play. If you are taking a government class, we’ll take you to Parliament.”

In order to apply, students must submit an online application through Arcadia’s website. A 3.0 GPA, official transcript, and letter of recommendation are required, said Daddona. 

Admission is rolling so the earlier students apply, the more likely they will be accepted to the program, Daddona added. 

Some Emerson students are happy to see the college make more study abroad available. 

Senior Nora Jordan, who studied with the Kasteel Well program, said she hopes Emerson will continue to create more opportunities.

“Most schools have a wider range of programs, so this is a good idea to incorporate more,” said the marketing communication major.

Junior Erin Doolin will be attending London Now from June 3  to July 28. The visual and media arts major said the application process was easy and Arcadia administrators were very helpful.

She said she hopes to take Arcadia’s Sex and the Gender in the City course and participate in an internship while abroad. 

“I never got to go to the Castle and always wanted to study abroad, so when I got the email I applied instantly,” said Doolin. “It was perfect.”
