Looking for firsthand accounts of academic and personal challenges, administrators have invited students to apply for positions on a new advisory group. 

“We don’t want to be just operating in an administrative bubble.” said Chris Daly, the director of retention and student success.

At two information sessions earlier this month, Daly and Jessica Glaser, the associate director of student success, told the audience of 11 students about their office’s goals. Daly, Glaser, and the attendees discussed campus jobs, the admission process for international students, involvement with clubs and organizations, and dining hall options.

Daly said the Office of Student Success is taking a holistic approach and looks to cover a range of topics, including academic, financial, and student life issues. 

“We are looking for really honest feedback,” Daly said. 

Freshman Phillip Morgan did not attend the meeting, but thinks the student perspective will be helpful for the Office.

“Students definitely have a less filtered view of what goes on at Emerson,” the writing, literature and publishing major said. “They have a wider lens that faculty don’t have.”

The Office of Student Success will select 10 to 15 students for the advisory board. Those selected will meet with Glaser two to three times per semester to give feedback about activities and initiatives undertaken by Student Success and Emerson at large.
