Members of the Emerson community participated in the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center’s Walk for Change last Sunday, raising over $200 in registration fees, according to Melanie Matson, director of the office of Violence Prevention and Response.

The office coordinated the group of students, faculty, and staff. VPR provided information about the event and transportation, and paid the registration fee for those who signed up.

Emerson had 15 attendees, but there were hundreds of people in attendance, according to Matson. She also said BARCC hosts the event annually to raise awareness for the organization, and to raise funds for their 24 hour hotline and other programs.

In addition to the walk, the day featured guest speakers, musical performances, and dogs, who were allowed to participate.

“BARCC provides support and assistance to Emerson students, staff, and faculty,” Matson said.  “So, of course we want to make that connection by raising awareness of BARCC as well as supporting them in whatever ways that we can.”
