A construction worker died Friday afternoon after falling from scaffolding outside the Cutler Majestic Theatre, police said.
Boston police reported to 219 Tremont Street around 12:45 p.m. after a worker fell from a construction site at the theater, according to Officer Michael Torigian, a Boston police spokesperson. The worker was pronounced dead at the scene, Torigian said. No other injuries were reported.
Police did not identify the worker and are investigating the incident. OSHA confirmed it responded to the incident and is investigating.
President Jay Bernhardt sent condolences to the worker’s family in an email sent to the Emerson community Friday.
“Emerson College extends our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of this person and our heartfelt support to anyone who may have witnessed this tragedy,” he wrote. “We are still learning more about what occurred, and are in open, ongoing contact with city authorities.”
Tremont Street was open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic by 3:19 pm that day, Emerson College police said.
