Young innovators from around the world will gather at Emerson this October when the college hosts part of the 2016 Forbes Under 30 Summit in Boston.
This annual event, hosted for the last two years in Philadelphia, aims to bring together more than 5,000 young thinkersin varying fields at four locations across the city for three days this October, Forbes spokeswoman Laura Daunis said. Emerson’s Cutler Majestic Theatre will host the stage dedicated to science and technology, according toDaunis.
“We’re bringing the most creative young entrepreneurs and game-changers to Boston for three days,” Forbes Editor Randall Lane wrote in a statement provided to the Beacon. “To get to introduce them to Emerson, one of the most ascendant hives of creativity, and the beautiful Cutler Majestic Theatre, makes all the sense in the world.”
Other locations of the Summit include Harvard Business School, Northeastern University, and Faneuil Hall, Daunis added.
The Summit features a star-studded list of speakers, including Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Atlantic Airways and Virgin Group; Jessica Alba, co-founder of The Honest Company; and Jim Koch, brewer and founder of Samuel Adams, to name a few.
Forbes is also organizing the Under 30 Music Festival, previously headlined by Wiz Khalifa, A$AP Rocky, and Afrojack, Daunis said. Although this year’s lineup has not been released, Daunis said Forbes will offer opportunities for the public to attend.
Interim Senior Associate Dean of Campus Life Sharon Duffy said the school is working with Forbes to develop avenues for students who aren’t attending to get involved, although these opportunities have yet to be announced.
Forbes also offered to pay for some Emerson students to attend its Summit. Students at 34 partner schools, including Emerson, had the opportunity to apply for access to one of the program’s four stages—a value of $475.
“[The Under 30 Summit] is going to give students a window into the world of entrepreneurial endeavors that they wish to go into,” Duffy said.
