EAGLE to hold week of sex education events

Emerson’s Alliance for Gays, Lesbians, and Everyone will host two weeks of LGBTQ sexual education awareness with funds from a Student Government Association appeal granted last Thursday.

EAGLE will use $1,935 to hold events related to queer sexual health, education, and advocacy. They have planned five main events, including a panel on mental health and two workshops conducted by The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health, co-president Casey MacPhail said.

“[The events] intend to provide LGBTQ students and allies with more in-depth education on safer sex and relationships that they may not have access to before, even at such an advanced institute such as Emerson,” MacPhail said.

Atlas Magazine also received $3,138.33 for its spring print issue. The money will also be used for the magazine’s launch party, Lindsey Paradis, the magazine’s editor-in-chief said.

SGA also allocated $11,750 from their own funds to gain access to CollegiateLink, a database for student organizations, next fall.

John Depa, SGA executive treasurer, said in an interview that CollegiateLink is a platform where each organization will have its own page and manage their long term documents. He said that CollegiateLink will be available for SGA recognized organizations and those recognized by departments, like the EVVY Awards and Green Gala. He said in the initial release that non-SGA recognized organizations ma not have access to it, but they might later on.

SGA closed the session to select finalists for the “Emersonian of the Year” and “Advisor of the Year” for the Emerson Recognition and Achievement Awards.
