Editor’s note

The loss of Jocelyn Amelia Straus, a freshman political communication major, was a devastating shock to our community. The thoughts of the Beacon staff are with Straus’ family and friends during this painful time; we wish to extend our sincere condolences.

In this time of mourning and tribute, the Beacon would like to provide the Emerson community with a space to honor Straus through the written word. The Beacon will be accepting special letters to the editor commemorating Straus until Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., which will be published in the print edition and online the next day. These submissions should be under 400 words and emailed to [email protected]. Please include your name and affiliation to Emerson. In next week’s issue, the Beacon will also run an obituary remembering Straus, who, as President M. Lee Pelton wrote, was a “bright light taken from this world far too soon.”
