Doug Herzog, president of Viacom Entertainment Group and an Emerson alumnus, was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame on Oct. 20. Herzog graduated from Emerson in 1981 with a degree in mass communications.
“You never expect to get anything like that,” said Herzog in a phone interview. “I’m a pretty fortunate and lucky guy to have stayed around this long and been able to have some success, and get recognized for it.”
In the past, Herzog has held executive positions at USA Network, Fox Broadcasting Company, and MTV. He is now a member of Emerson’s board of trustees.
Herzog said Emerson is where his passion for the TV business got started. He said he was involved in Emerson Independent Video and the WERS radio station during his time at the college.
“Work hard, follow your instincts, stay with it,” Herzog advised current Emerson students. “Try and see where you want to go, and work hard to get there.”
