I can honestly say it was worth the wait. Good seats, good hockey and most importantly, a great atmosphere of being surrounded by a bunch of crazy hockey schools.,Last Monday, I attended the early round games of the Beanpot hockey tournament for the first time.

Northeastern and Boston College had very good representation as their student bodies came to cheer on their teams. That game was good to watch but it was the second game, which pinned perennial Beanpot winner Boston University against Harvard, that caught my attention the most.
During the announcements of the Crimson players, the BU fans would turn their backs to them, only to turn around again and shout: “You suck!” That was wicked cool.
Granted, I have never witnessed the Cameron Crazies from Duke or Syracuse fans, but BU supporters are up there among them in terms of craziness.
The atmosphere made me a little sad that I don’t attend a big-time Division I school.
During BU’s first two goals, the student body was alive and yelling in organized cheers, owning the building. The atmosphere felt like professional teams were playing.
I looked around the rink hoping to see Harvard fans come out and cheer on their current school or alma mater.
There was no support to speak of from spectators.
It was a Monday night and those Crimsons were probably studying, most likely taking their intellectual pursuits more seriously than a hockey game.
When you’re that smart, you don’t need something to cheer for, right?
In the pursuit of enlightenment and academic domination over the masses, Emersonians are turning into a Harvard type of fan base.
That is not a good thing.
Harvard plays in the Ivy League Conference and competes against prestigious universities including Yale, Cornell, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, U-Penn and Dartmouth. All are schools with sports programs, but rarely do they graduate professional athletes.
There is no such thing as an athletic scholarship in this league, so every athlete is playing because they want to. They will never come out and say it, but they are probably upset that very few people appreciate the dedication they put into what they do.
