Jan. 18: WPI 64, Emerson 50
Player of the Game: Tyson Hallowell
Sophomore Tyson Hallowell made six of 10 shots from the field and converted all three free throw attempts to lead the Lions with 16 points off the bench versus the Engineers (14-1, 4-0 NEWMAC), who are ranked No. 5 in the nation by d3hoops.com. Sophomore Michael Thorpe led the starting five with 15 points to go with four steals and three assists. Senior captain Jon Goldberg only scored four points, but led all players in assists (seven) and rebounds (10), tying WPI forward Ryan Kolb, who also had 10 boards.
Jan. 22: Emerson 62, Wheaton 60
Player of the Game: Eli Kell-Abrams
After leading by eight points at the break, Emerson was able to withstand a late rally from the visiting Lyons (7-7, 2-3) and go above the .500 mark in conference. Junior guard Eli Kell-Abrams poured in a season-high 21 points on 6-10 shooting, including a season-high five 3-pointers. A Michael Thorpe layup with six seconds remaining broke a 60-60 tie, and a missed Wheaton three-point attempt at the buzzer sealed the win for the Lions. The victory marked career win number 400 for third-year head coach Jim O’Brien.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Jan. 18: Smith 62, Emerson 55
Player of the Game: Kristin Brice
Junior forward Kristin Brice was the only Lions player to reach double digits, scoring 20 points, going a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and pulling in eight rebounds as the Pioneers (7-8, 7-4 NEWMAC) held on in a closely contested game. Kelsey Johnson (six points, 10 rebounds) and Catherine Cloutier (eight points, seven rebounds) were both active on the boards, while sophomore Janissa Delzo and freshman Emily Cameron contributed nine points apiece. Emerson shot 92 percent on 25 attempts from the free throw line, but also committed 25 turnovers.
Jan. 19: MIT 47, Emerson 43
Player of the game: Catherine Cloutier
Junior forward Catherine Cloutier contributed a little bit of everything, scoring a team-high 11 points, grabbing eight rebounds and recording two assists, one steal, and one block. Cloutier did most of her damage before the break as the Lions led for much of the first half before falling behind to the host Engineers (8-9, 5-7 NEWMAC). Kristin Brice (nine rebounds) and sophomore Kelsey Johnson (seven rebounds) combined for just nine points and shot 4-23. Freshman Elizabeth Horan hit two 3-pointers off the bench. Both teams struggled from the field, with Emerson shooting 26.5 percent for the game compared to MIT at 36.4 percent.
Jan. 22: Emerson 61, Mount Ida 52
Player of the Game: Sienna O’Han
Sophomore guard Sienna O’Han paced the Lions’ offense with 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists as Emerson led by 15 at halftime against its former Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival. Kristin Brice had a game-high 18 points, and Elizabeth Horan chipped in with 14 off the bench, connecting on four 3-pointers.
