My mamá could always be seen snacking on a big bowl of fruits no matter the hour or the weather, no matter where our family outings may have taken us on any particular evening (peaches, grapes, and pears were among her favorites). Fresh fruit was something my mamá made sure was a constant staple in our fridge, and she would lecture us on the importance of getting enough fruit for our salud (health).

My favorite form of a fruit bowl comes from a fan-favorite—açai bowls. I know there are two types of people: those who love açai and those who have not tried it yet. I have yet to meet someone who would object to a delicious açai bowl topped with slices of their favorite fruits.

With schoolwork ramping up and a new job underway, it has been hard to find time to enjoy this comfort of mine, but it hasn’t stopped me from the occasional takeout order. Like most people my age, I am heavily influenced by my environment, so after seeing one video of an açai bowl on my Instagram reels one night, I could not help but order one.

Brothers Burger is a Brazilian burger joint in Malden, MA, which is more on the outskirts of Boston. Their menu is in English and Portuguese, featuring an assortment of Brazilian-inspired burger fare and sides, make your own açai bowls, and shakes.

While I have yet to try the burgers, I quickly ordered their açai, which came out to only about $10, totaling about $14 with delivery. In comparison, my usual açai order elsewhere never runs below $22, and since I am trying to save up as much as I can while still enjoying myself, I found this to be a great deal. However, I was skeptical to see how good it would be.

With one spoonful of açai, I had absolutely no regrets about my late-night food purchase. The açai was not overly sugary and left a satisfying tart and sweet taste in my mouth. Complemented by my selection of uva (grapes), morango (strawberry), and manga (mango), the bowl was made even better. As someone who loves passion fruit, I added some creme maracuja (Passion fruit cream) and some granola.

I have had my fair share of delicious, well-priced açai bowls and my fair share of bowls that have taken a chunk of change out of my pocket, leaving me never wanting to buy this treat ever again. For the price and the quality of this açai bowl, I would recommend Brothers Burger for anyone looking to indulge in my favorite treat! You can order these Açai bowls at their location in Malden, through Uber Eats, and through their WhatsApp, linked in their Instagram account.
