A group of students, including freshman visual and media arts major Cameron Target, organized a gathering Wednesday on Boston Common to show solidarity with pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong. They encouraged attendees to bring umbrellas, which became a symbol of the rallies in Hong Kong after protesters used them to deflect tear gas fired by police in riot gear.
“So much of Hong Kong’s future and identity depends on this,” said Target.
Barton Liang, another organizer and student at Tufts University, said there are currently no plans for another rally.
