After a freezing cold Inauguration Day in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump and former President Joe Biden participated in a peaceful transfer of power that, four years earlier, the 47th president subverted.
In the backdrop of the cordial ceremony sat billionaires Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and Shou Zi Chew, the Singaporean CEO of TikTok who credited Trump for reversing the ban on TikTok in the U.S., despite not being in office yet. The other three have become frequenters of Mar-A-Lago, signaling the beginnings of an unprecedented relationship between the plutocrats and the newly inaugurated president.
In the first hours of his presidency, President Trump signed a slew of executive orders aligning with his “America First” campaign promises. The initial signing took place at the Capitol One Arena, surrounded by hundreds in the audience who cheered after each signing.
- Sweeping pardon: Trump signed a pardon to nearly 1,600 Jan. 6 rioters.
- Executive orders: Among Trump’s first executive orders in office is a freeze in federal hiring, withdrawl from the Paris Climate Treaty, and a nullification of more than 75 previous orders signed by former President Joe Biden.
- TikTok ban: Trump has officially delayed the ban on TikTok for an additional 75 days.
- Immigration policy: Trump has declared a state of emergency at the southern border the U.S. shares with Mexico, and has announced he will send troops to stop immigration. He also signed an executive order to redefine birthright citizenship, a decision that will most likely be legally challenged due to conflict with the 14th Amendment.
