New members and appeals in SGA

Emerson’s chapter of Active Minds received funds for a trip to a national conference from the Student Government Association on Oct. 20.

Ashley Cunningham, president of the advocacy group, said at the meeting that they needed $4,345.52 for the trip to the Active Minds 12th National Mental Health on Campus Conference in California. After Cunningham explained that the group had cut costs to make the trip more affordable, SGA granted them an additional $81, bringing the total to $4,426.52. The Emerson Los Angeles and Kasteel Well activities fees were allocated $17,372.79. There is now $183,613.83 in the appeals budget.

Tuesday was also the first meeting including the two new members named to SGA during the special election. Lucille McCormick was elected as the Visual and Media Arts Senator and Dylan Walton as Communication Studies Senator.

SGA confirmed that Skylar Kergil, transgender activist and singer-songwriter, will speak at the Transweek event in November, sponsored by the class of 2018.
