Men’s soccer
Overall Record: 3-5-3
NEWMAC Record: 0-3
Remaining NEWMAC opponents: Coast Guard, Wheaton, Clark, Babson
Beacon’s take: The men’s soccer team has yet to win a conference game since joining the NEWMAC last season. The top five teams qualify for the playoffs, and the last-place Lions need to win at least three of their remaining four conference games to have a shot. Clark and Babson each have only one NEWMAC win on the season, so those two matches could prove crucial for the team.
Women’s soccer
Overall Record: 4-6-1
NEWMAC Record: 1-2
Remaining NEWMAC opponents: Smith, Wheaton, Springfield, Babson, Coast Guard, MIT, Clark
Beacon’s take: The Lady Lions have played only three NEWMAC games this season; the bulk of their conference games are scheduled over the next month. If the season ended today, the women’s soccer team would be out of the playoffs by one spot. Mollie Coyne, second in the NEWMAC in goals, will lead the offensive charge over the final seven conference games.
Cross country
Men’s Finishes: Second, First, and Eighth
Women’s Finishes: Second, First, and Sixth
Remaining Schedule: There are two meets for each team between between now and the NEWMAC Championship Meet.
Beacon’s take: Every cross country team in the conference is invited to a decisive NEWMAC Cross Country Championship on Nov. 1. Both teams look to carry momentum from their early successes into the final stretch of the season.
Women’s tennis
Overall Record: 0-9
NEWMAC Record: 0-8
Remaining NEWMAC opponents: None
Beacon’s take: The Lions have been consistently overmatched this season and have struggled mightily because of it. With no more conference matches left, the Lions, led by senior captain Jana Winfield, will look to pick up their first win of the season in one of their final four non-conference matches.
Women’s volleyball
Overall Record: 13-7
NEWMAC Record: 4-2
Remaining NEWMAC opponents: Babson, Coast Guard, MIT, Clark
Beacon’s take: If the season ended today, the women’s volleyball team would be the only Emerson team to make the playoffs. The young team finds itself in fifth place thanks to underclassmen Sam Harton, Julianna Augustine, and Elaine Nichol. Three of their remaining four matches are against higher-ranked schools, so the Lions have to finish out their schedule strong to keep their playoff spot intact.
