Tens of thousands of protesters took to Boston Common on Saturday, Oct. 18, as part of the nationwide No Kings movement, with more than 2,700 protests taking place across the country.
Chants of “Resist,” “This is what democracy looks like,” and “The people united will never be defeated” could be heard as thousands of signs blanketed the Common’s parade grounds.
Many public officials spoke at the protest, including Mass. senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, Rep. Ayanna Pressley, and Mayor Michelle Wu. Rahsaan Hall, president and CEO of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts, emceed the protest. More than 20 community organizations shared resources with attendees to take further action in support of the protest’s cause: “America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people,” according to the No Kings website.
