Goldklank was a guest lecturer last month at an Emerson event sponsored by the Journalism Department and the college’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.,Channel 7 WHDH general manager, Randi Goldklank was charged with assault and battery of a police officer following an incident at Logan International airport, The Boston Globe reported yesterday.
Goldklank was a guest lecturer last month at an Emerson event sponsored by the Journalism Department and the college’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Acting chair of the department Janet Kolodzy told The Globe that Goldklank had been invited to speak because of her respected status in the world of broadcast journalism.
On March 27, Goldklank, 40, led an open lecture with Emerson’s leader-in-residence Carole Simpson about women in TV and management.
While reportedly smelling of alcohol, Goldklank was arrested Sunday night at Logan after she hit a state trooper, allegedly breaking his prescription glasses.
The Globe reported that Goldklank also told the troopers, “I’m a big shot in Boston, and I’ll have your [expletive] jobs…”
SPJ co-president Lynette Cornell said she was at Goldklank’s lecture, which filled the Multipurpose Room in Piano Row, and that she was left with a positive impression of Goldklank.
“I still think she’s a hard-working individual, full of spunk,” the print journalism major said.
“It’s such a blow to see someone that is really talented and smart act that way in that moment, but she’s still a human being.”
Cornell, a junior and a former Beacon contributer, said Goldklank stressed that students not let fear of failure prevent them from entering the competitive journalism industry.
The arrest was covered by numerous news networks, including WHDH.
On Sunday, Goldklank reportedly told paramedics she was taking the anti-depressant Lexapro.
“After a few minutes she leaned toward Sergeant Luce and stated, ‘You think I’m cute and I think you’re cute, just drive me home,'” according to a copy of the report published on The Globe Web site.
The paper also reported that WHDH has placed Goldklank on administrative leave and said the incident is under review by management.
She first gained notoriety as the Boston news scene’s youngest and only female general manager.
