For the second time in just a few weeks, a stabbing has occurred near campus.

Emerson’s Emergency Notification System warned students of a stabbing where a man’s neck was slashed near Boylston and Tremont streets around 10:55 p.m. last Friday. The suspect and the victim had no affiliation to the college, according to the alerts.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening, but Boston Emergency Medical Services took him to the hospital, WCVB reported.

Emerson College Police Department’s Deputy Chief Eric Schiazza said the Boston Police Department is investigating the incident. Boston police did not respond to requests for comment.

ENS sent calls and emails Friday night and Saturday morning to warn students. In addition, President M. Lee Pelton sent an email to the Emerson community on Saturday detailing steps the college is taking in response to the attacks.

“In light of these recent incidents, ECPD is increasing their staffing and security arrangements,” Pelton wrote.

According to the email, he requested to meet with Boston Police Commissioner William Evans to discuss the stabbings and request security from the BPD.

The Office of Campus Life hosted open hours in the Little Building’s Charles Beard Room Saturday afternoon so students could meet with ECPD officers and staff members from Counseling and Psychological Services.

“It’s not random, the people involved knew each other … I think it’s still fairly safe,” ECPD Chief Robert Smith said.

Both Smith and Pelton recommended ECPD’s safety escort system, which provides students with an officer to accompany them to their destination around campus at any time. To request an escort, students can call 617-824-8555.
