SGA appoints new leaders, handles appeals

The first Student Government Association joint session meeting of the semester was held on Sept. 8. The organization appointed five members to positions, four of whom were returning members.

Sheba Wood, a junior performing arts major, was appointed to the position of multicultural commissioner, and Hamad Al Badi, a junior marketing major, to the position of LGBTQIA+ commissioner. Other appointments included Emileigh Radcliff, junior visual and media arts major, to the position of Disabilities/Accessibility Commissioner, and James Rowland, sophomore visual and media arts major, to the position of Election Chair. All four members are returning to positions they held last semester.

Nicole Gabriel, a freshman performing arts major, was appointed to the position of executive assistant.

“I think we should all respect and admire her bravery in doing this two weeks into her time here,” Wood said.

During the appeals portion of the meeting, funds were allocated to several student organizations. Emertainment Monthly was granted $1614 to take two students on a trip to Austin, Texas, to attend the National College Media Convention, the weekend of Oct. 28. The class of 2018 was also allocated $876.05 to have trans activist speaker Skylar Kergil attend and speak at an event later this semester.
