On Tuesday, the Student Government Association elected two new members and granted an appeal for funds that will enable Emertainment Monthly staff to attend New York Comic Con.
The $2,338.46 in allocated funds will cover the cost of transportation, lodging, and food costs for three seniors that Emertainment Monthly is planning to send to the big apple.
Faith D’Isa, executive marketing officer of Emertainment Monthly, said the convention would create opportunities for the publication to do interviews and see previews of new content.
“The amount of coverage that we can have as an organization is insane, but it is expensive,” D’Isa said.
Last Tuesday, SGA met with Michael Arno, director of community standards and student conduct, to ask questions and discuss the code of conduct’s policy with illegal activities.
Ian Mandt, SGA vice treasurer and a sophomore visual and media arts major, raised concerns about the code of conduct’s “Alcohol and Other Drugs” policy. He said that someone who is not participating in an illegal activity, but is surrounded with friends who are, should not be punished. Arno clarified that these students would only be questioned if the illegal activity took place in the resident halls.
Michael O’Connor, class of 2017 president and a senior visual and media arts major, raised concerns about how the policy makes other people responsible in a suite environment.
“I just feel like there should be an update [in the code]. Policies of a regular room should not have the same effect as a suite necessarily,” O’Connor said.
Last week, Elizabeth Northey, a sophomore visual and media arts major, was elected as executive secretary and Anna Drummond, a senior visual and media arts major, was elected as the LGBTQ commissioner. SGA Executive President Emily Solomon was re-elected as the Board of Trustees undergraduate representative. This Tuesday, Emily Schnider was elected as the accessibilities/disabilities commissioner. Raz Moayed, a freshman visual and media arts major, was elected as executive assistant.
