The Student Government Association granted appeals Tuesday to Atlas Magazine and the sorority Kappa Gamma Chi.
Atlas, a campus lifestyle publication, appealed for $1,932 to go toward costs of printing the magazine, photo shoots, and the issue’s launch event, according to Marlo Jappen, co-editor-in-chief and a senior writing, literature, and publishing major.
“We ask for this money in order to keep Atlas’ goals and work alive, to continue offering learning experiences for anyone interested in joining our staff, and to reflect the Emerson community,” Jappen said.
Kappa Gamma Chi appealed for $3,543.24 to fund Emerald Empowerment, their weeklong campaign protesting domestic violence, according to Caitlin O’Beirne, co-chair of the sorority’s event and a senior writing, literature, and publishing major. O’Beirne is a former Beacon staff member.
The sorority will be donating proceeds from the campaign to local domestic violence advocacy organizations and shelters, Casa Myrna Vasquez and Transition House.
There is $76,339.60 remaining in the SGA appeals budget.
