After hearing criticism from parents and students, Emerson’s food vendor, Sodexo, is looking for a new beginning.

That’s why Sodexo is holding the Fresh Start event, an evening meal on Nov. 21. Fresh Start is the beginning of an initiative to improve Emerson’s dining hall experience, according to an email sent by Emerson Dining Services to students.

The email noted various changes and improvements Sodexo will usher in:

  • A new executive chef, Dianna MacPhee, will replace Wanderson Dearaujo, and a second sous chef will be added

  • Retraining of staff, with an emphasis on quality in both preparation and presentation

  • Independent internal and peer-directed service reviews to compare Emerson’s service with other institutions

  • A renewed focus on engagement between students and dining staff

The dining facility is also offering new opportunities for feedback including monthly forums, meals with Sodexo directors, meetings with SGA representatives, and the already-established napkin note board.

Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Campus Services Duncan Pollock said Sodexo worked with Emerson staff and Dining Services to create the Fresh Start event.

“We’re committed to serving the highest quality meals we possibly can,” Pollock said. “And [parents and students felt] they weren’t getting that quality.”
