Fans of Hush Club are in for a sweet treat on Sept. 8 at The Sinclair, and it’s not just the performance.
Famed on social media for their tight-knit relationship with fans, the Somerville indie rock band will meet fans at Lizzy’s Ice Cream after their show in Cambridge.
The bandmates—Chris Haley (guitarist), Liz Kantor (keyboardist), and Alasdair MacKenzie (bassist and sound engineer)—met during their time at Harvard University in 2017. Then in 2019, they formed the band. All three contribute vocals and lyrics.
The band released their debut album, “Fingerprints and Stains,” in 2021 and has followed up with several singles, including their most recent, “Movie.”
In an interview with The Beacon, Haley described their sound as ‘60s melodic rock via Americana and folk influences. Lyrically, their inspiration comes from real-life experiences.
The band is no stranger to get-togethers with fans. In December 2023, the trio threw a pizza party among themselves and posted about it on TikTok, saying they would make pizza for everyone who came to their next show. For Haley, it was all about staying true to themselves.
“A big goal was just to try to make stuff that feels natural and show us hanging out in ways we actually hang out,” said Haley. The TikTok of Haley making the pizza went viral overnight, generating 48,000 views the next morning.
“People wanted to get to know us and eat with us,” said Haley. “But we couldn’t make that many people pizza. That just wouldn’t have been realistic. So instead, we decided to offer pizza as part of our next show.”
At their show at Brighton Music Hall, the band found a local pizza joint willing to host and invited their entire audience to join them for a slice.
“I wasn’t really sure how that was gonna work out, but people were super nice, and it was really fun to get to meet new people and connect with people,” said Haley.

The fun doesn’t just start after the show, however. Along with the three primary players of the group, they will be adding Stephen Sifflard on drums and Ben Overzat on guitar for the first time in a Boston headline show.
Additionally, rock band Photo Negative and singer-songwriter Will Leet will open the show.
Haley and MacKenzie said audiences can expect to hear a new stripped-down version of a song they usually play with a full band.
“Just Chris, Liz and I are going to do something, just the three of us that feels vulnerable and raw,” Mackenzie said.
For Haley, live performances are second nature, since he serves as a guitarist for Boston area artists Silver Arrow Band and Julie Rhodes.
“I feel like there’s just something about being on stage with other musicians, an energy … with people when you have to listen and lock in,” said Haley. “There’s just a feeling of connecting with other people in an unspoken way that’s just really intoxicating, and I never get sick of it.”
This upcoming show is a major “milestone” for the band, Haley said.
“It’s right near where we went to college. We’d always walk by and look at it sort of wistfully, and go ‘maybe someday,’” said Haley. “This feels like a step forward.”
