Staff offices migrate

Since last semester, eight Emerson offices and facilities have relocated, some due to recent construction.

The Equipment Distribution Center (EDC), the Office of Student Success, the Campus Life Office, Information Technology, and several other administrative offices all changed locations, according to an email to the Emerson community from Arthur Mombourquette, the senior associate vice president for real estate. The Office of Administration and Finance is scheduled to move in November.

All of the moves are permanent, Mombourquette said in an interview. The new EDC facilities on Avery Street are a significant improvement from the previous EDC in the Little Building, he added.

“They’ve got much more space now,” he said. “It’s better organized. They’ve got more flow space. Their new space gives them a better venue for orienting people to the equipment that they use.”

Several of the offices under Vice President for Administration and Finance Maureen Murphy, which used to be in different buildings, are now located on the same floor of 20 Park Plaza. Mombourquette said their new proximity greatly increased efficiency.

The construction of a new dining center adjacent to the Walker Building began this summer, and the new residence hall at 2 Boylston Place is still being built. Mombourquette’s email predicted that both projects will be completed before next fall. He said preliminary renovations of the Little Building will begin in January of 2017.
