Dr. Charles Steinberg, president of the Pawtucket Red Sox and executive for the Boston Red Sox, was named director of sports communication at Emerson Tuesday, the college announced.
Steinberg taught classes at the school during the fall semester in the sports communication program. Despite the new position, he will remain in his current roles at Pawtucket and Boston.
The former Red Sox executive vice president and senior advisor to the president/chief executive officer also spent time in executive positions at the front offices of the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Baltimore Orioles.
Ethan Michaud, a junior in the sports communication program, said having a notable figure like Steinberg lead it makes the school more attractive.
“Aside from being one of the only sports communication programs in the country,” Michaud said, “Now Emerson has a leg up in the fact that its program director is a former executive in the real world of professional baseball.”
