Tourney cancelled

LeTourneau, who serves as the head coach of both the women’s volleyball team and the men’s team that is due to begin competition in Spring 2009, said that only two teams signed up in advance of the slated 6 p.m. start time on Sunday night.

LeTourneau said that he would have been willing to keep the tournament running as scheduled by simply shuffling the two teams up and playing pick-up games over the course of the evening.

However, when one of the groups dropped out just prior to the start of the competition, LeTourneau said he was forced to call the whole thing off.

The failed tournament was a change from earlier successful efforts by the Emerson Athletics Department to organize intramural sports. In the fall, a basektball tournament was held that drew over 50 students to the gym, while this semester has seen both a soccer and dodgeball tournament take place that acheived similar student turnout.

LeTourneau said that he would like to hear any ideas from students for intramural tournaments they would like to see organized in the future, and urged anyone interested to contact him in his office in the Athletics Department or via his Emerson e-mail address.
