VP leaves college for consulting career

Andrew Tiedemann, vice president for marketing and communication, resigned September 1 to pursue work in consulting management—and he’s taking his famous iPad with him.

He said that he’s enjoyed his last eight years at Emerson but wants to leave his first vice presidency with fond memories. His resignation was an attempt to clear his mind and avoid the risk of “burning out,” he said.

To fill Tiedemann’s responsibilities, two teams have come together: an enrollment marketing team lead by Michael Sarra and a communication team lead by Carole McFall.

At Emerson, Tiedemann expanded the college’s news coverage, broadened social media, and updated the website. This month, he’ll mix it up when he begins on his new career path.

“Consulting management is very different,” Tiedemann said. “The first big difference is you’re managing projects, not people. The other part is, it’s all problem-solving.”

Sarra, associate vice president of enrollment marketing, said his group is responsible for the college’s marketing across all platforms, from digital to print. The team is also looking to showcase what sets the college apart as they prepare to complete the branding initiative, he said.

“Students look to learn more about colleges and universities in different ways than they have in the past,” he said. “We’re going to make sure we connect with them in the ways they want us to.”

McFall, associate vice president of communication, said she’s excited for the new challenges the fall semester will bring as she helps to fill her mentor’s shoes. McFall oversees social media, newsletters, and public relations, she said.

“I hope to be able to tell the stories about Emerson and all the great things going on here, all the things faculty and students are working on, whether it’s through our website, social media, or the alumni magazine,” she said.

Tiedemann said he believes the marketing and communication team will continue to do great work for the college this year and onward.

“Emerson is always going to hold a special place in my heart,” he said. “I’m going to continue to participate as a donor and a parent. I look forward to watching Emerson continue to grow.”
