I am writing this letter in response to Marissa Sertich’s opinion piece about Wal-Mart. As a 2006 graduate of Emerson College, I too am aware of the closed-mindedness of some of the students at that school. This is all too apparent when one discovers that there are anti-Wal-Mart stickers on the bathroom walls.
In her article, Marissa Sertich makes numerous valid points based off of research on Wal-Mart. Today, Wal-Mart is treated as the ultimate enemy and yet it provides millions of low-cost products to consumers around the world each day.
Wal-Mart is criticized by the liberal media and yet it provides thousands of jobs to our citizens. Sertich is correct when she says that such a large company can not be flawless, but I think we should applaud Wal-Mart for what it has done right and not ignore that for what that company has done wrong. For the next generation of Emerson students, I hope there are more people like Marissa Sertich who debate subjects based on merit and not on what slogans can fit on the bathroom wall.
