Women’s basketball MVP: Kristin Brice

Junior forward Kristin Brice scored nearly double the number of points of any other teammate this season, starting all 25 games and racking up 346 points for an average of 13.8 points per game, which ranked her 10th in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference.

Brice finished just 1.5 points off the conference leader, and will enter her senior season with a running total of 965 points, making her likely to become the fourth Emerson women’s basketball player to reach 1,000 career points. That would put her in an exclusive club with Lions greats Kathy Andrade, Olivia DiNucci, and all-time leading scorer Molly Zahr.

Despite taking the most shots per game on the team (11.9), the 6-foot Brice retained her efficiency, leading Emerson in field goal percentage (41.6 percent) and making 73.7 percent on free throws.

Brice scored 20 points on five occasions, including 30 in the season opener in a win over Wentworth, and then 29 against Massachusetts Institute of Technology four days later as Emerson won its first NEWMAC game ever, 74-69, in what was also the team’s highest point total of the season. Along with her 20-point performances, Brice also totaled 18 points four times.

The Lions’ leading scorer was more than just an offensive force, also leading the team in rebounds per game (9.0), blocks (1.7), and steals (1.2).
