Emerson has many students and organizations that host events. This is exhibited through EmConnect’s event page. The Beacon Living Arts section went through the events for the next week and picked out a few for this week that seemed interesting.

“The Peculiar Patriot”

On Wednesday, “The Peculiar Patriot” opens at the Paramount Center. The one-person show starring Liza Jessie Peterson highlights the human impact of mass incarceration in America, observing the migration of systemic injustice from the plantation to the prison yard. Wednesday and Thursday night productions are sold out, but more shows are scheduled until Oct. 28. Tickets are available on ArtsEmerson’s website.

Meet the trustees

For students who’d like to share their voice and learn more about how the college is run, the Student Engagement and Leadership office is hosting a free breakfast with the Board of Trustees on Thursday. The breakfast will be hosted in the Dining Center Private Dining Room from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Only the first 20 students who RSVP will get a seat.

A mosaic reception

The Office of Intercultural Student Affairs, Fusion, a resource group for faculty and staff of color, supporters and allies, and the Career Development Center are hosting the annual Mosaic Reception. This is an evening of fun, food, and fellowship for students, staff, and alumni who identify as people of color. The reception will take place on Thursday from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the Cabaret.

In a rich man’s world

On Friday students who need help filling out FAFSA forms or have questions about financial aid can come to L151 in the Campus Center from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Financial Aid Associate Carol Smolinksy and Residence Assistants will be here to address any financial concerns.
