Emerson has many students and over 80 organizations that host events. This is exhibited through EmConnect’s event page. The Beacon’s Living-Arts section went through the events for the next week and picked out a few that seemed interesting.
Catch the snitch
Hogwarts comes to Boston Common’s softball fields this Tuesday. Emerson’s Quidditch team will be holding open practices with no commitments or experience required. There are practices on Friday and Sunday as well. Tryouts on Saturday are not necessary to be considered for the team. While quidditch is not an official Emerson college sport, an alumnus who played quidditch helped the U.S. team win the Quidditch World Cup this summer.
Learn money basics
Balance your college budget and keep your information safe with advice from an accredited financial counselor from Money Matters on Tuesday. Undergraduate and graduate students with any level of financial knowledge are invited. Pizza will be provided. Learn to create your spending plan, and broaden your understanding of banks and credit unions.
Midweek relaxation
The Healing and Advocacy Collective is hosting sunset yoga on the terrace at 2 Boylston Place. Dr. Melanie O. Matson, the director and survivor counselor for the collective, earned her certification in trauma yoga and will instruct the session on Wednesday.
Community builders with Resident Assistants
Get to know your resident assistants while getting free items this week. On Wednesday, get your tarot cards read while sipping tea. Afterwards, get swampy with RAs and decorate a succulent pot that comes with your free plant. A paint-by-numbers party will be held on Thursday. Complimentary lemonade and sparkling cider will be provided. Sing your heart out Thursday night with karaoke in Paramount.
Take the stage
Common auditions for the fall semester begin Wednesday and end Sunday. Sign up for auditions on the fifth floor of Tufte. All students are welcome, just prepare a two-minute monologue for plays and two contrasting 32-bar cuts for musicals. Auditions are held in Paramount, and run by the Musical Theatre Society, Kidding Around, and more.
