Emerson will hold classes on Saturdays once a month through November this fall to meet federal requirements for maintaining accreditation.
Classes will be held on Sept. 12, Oct. 10, and Nov. 7 in order “for each class to have the right number of meetings this semester,” Vice President and Dean of Campus Life Jim Hoppe announced in an email Friday.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michaele Whelan said additional classes need to take place for Emerson to be recognized by the federal government as a credible institution.
“In order to meet our accreditation standards, classes need to meet a certain number of times during the semester,” Whelan said in an emailed statement.
Most Saturday classes will be held remotely, she said.
The break from typical scheduling may be a result of limited meeting options under Emerson’s hybrid plan for the fall.
