Emerson College’s Wellness Center introduced its new EmWell website, a mental health resource for students that includes a 24-hour support hotline, at the beginning of the spring semester.
The website features contact information for on-campus resources, such as Student Accessibility Services, and national resources, like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, The Trevor Project, National Sexual Assault Hotline, and Alcoholics Anonymous. Articles about body image, sleep, nutrition, mindfulness, communication, and accessibility are also featured on Emerson’s wellness sites.
Emerson community members can contact 833-434-1217 any time of day to speak to a counselor if they’re dealing with feelings of anxiety, depression, or stress, according to the EmWell website. Students may also call if they’re having relationship problems, experiencing grief and loss, need help with coping skills, or could use support between therapy sessions.
Emerson’s Wellness Center, located on the second floor of 216 Tremont Street, is open on weekdays from 9 to 5 p.m., with evening hours by appointment only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 6:30 p.m. Students should stop by the office or call 617-824-8666 to schedule an appointment for either physical or mental health concerns.
The Wellness Center’s Counseling Services offers same-day and urgent care visits every weekday between 1 and 4 p.m., according to the center. A student can call or walk in to request a counseling appointment.
BIPOC-focused clinicians hold drop-in hours on Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Cultural Center on the fourth floor of 172 Tremont, according to the center. No appointments are currently necessary.
Students studying abroad can call 617-824-8755 for the Emerson Wellness Center after-hours crisis service.
Counseling Services offers short-term individual therapy, group therapy, substance use counseling, and limited psychiatric services. The center can help students get connected with local psychiatrists.
Students can also call 833-434-1217 to arrange free telehealth or face-to-face therapy sessions through EmWell. They also have access to a complimentary Headspace membership and a self-guided online mental health program.
In addition to mental health services, the Emerson Wellness Center’s services include management of minor illnesses and injuries, in-clinic testing for illnesses and pregnancy, gynecological services, sexually-transmitted infection testing and counseling, physical examinations, and immunizations. Students can book appointments with a registered dietitian, for education, diet plans, food allergies, weight management, and disordered eating.
The center does not offer emergency services, dental services, eye exams for glasses or contacts, on-site physical or occupational therapy, or on-site X-rays.
For on-campus emergencies, students should contact the Emerson College Police Department at 617-824-8888 or call 911.
