Ansin Building reopened early Sunday afternoon following flooding in the building’s basement caused by a busted fire hydrant on Tremont Street on Saturday night, ECPD wrote in a community-wide email today. The building was closed for entry around 9 p.m. last night as Boston Police, Fire, and Water Departments and Emerson Facilities evaluated the flooding, according to a previous police email.
“The effect of last night’s water incident is limited to a small section of the basement and is being addressed,” ECPD wrote in their update. The basement will remain closed until Wednesday, but the rest of the building is now accessible, the update continued.
The basement of Ansin Building houses the offices of WERS, one of the college’s student-run radio stations. Following flooding on Saturday night, ECPD officers were seen entering the station to tell on-air students to evacuate. It is unclear at this time how the continued basement closure will affect WERS, but the email indicated that impacted groups will be notified separately of the closures.
The extent of any damage to the basement from the flooding is unclear.
Classrooms and offices in Ansin will be fully operational come Tuesday morning following the holiday weekend, the report said.
“We appreciate the rapid response and collaboration between our Facilities team and the City of Boston, which allowed us to quickly ensure the safety of our community and minimize damage,” the email concluded.
