Thousands of runners will descend on Massachusetts for the 129th Boston Marathon, which begins in Hopkinton and ends at the Boston Public Library. Over 100 countries will be represented as runners aim to reach coveted medals, personal bests, and fundraising goals.

ECPD Sends Out Community Advisory

The Emerson College Police Department are advising students of road closures along Boylston Street and potential travel delays related to the 129th Boston Marathon this weekend.

Chief Robert Casagrande said in an emailed statement sent Friday afternoon that racers will be loaded onto buses along Charles Street “between 6:45 and 9:30 a.m.” Monday.

“Community members may experience delays when traveling in the city, both on foot and by public transportation,” he added. “The race organizer and Boston Police have developed several guidelines to ensure the health and safety of spectators and runners.”

The announcement also reminded community members that there are no classes due to Patriots Day. As a result, exterior doors to campus buildings will be secured all day.

“Every community member will have tap access to enter all campus buildings and campus security will be on post. Dining Hall access will be through the 25 Boylston Place Entrance,” the announcement added.

DJ Mara, Dept. Metro Editor

DJ Mara (he/him) is a sophomore political communication major from Worcester, MA, who currently serves as the deputy metro news editor for The Berkeley Beacon. In previous semesters, DJ served as a staff writer, assistant news editor, and Kasteel Well bureau chief. When DJ is not writing for The Beacon, he can be found working on political campaigns or exploring his love for photography by taking photos of cityscapes and nature around him.

Sam Shipman, Kasteel Well Staff Writer

Sam Shipman (He/Him) is a second-year journalism student from Natick, Massachusetts. Outside of the Beacon, he can be found working with The Society of Professional Journalists as the Co-Vice-President, staff writing for WECB Milk Crate, working at WERS 88.9 FM as a member of the “You Are Here” Staff. When not working in the field, he can be found listening to music, trying new food, doing freelance videography, and spending time with friends.

Nick Peace, Staff Photographer

Nick Peace is a staff photographer from Natick, MA. He is a sophomore media and film student at Suffolk University with a minor in journalism. He has contributed to the Beacon since his first semester. Nick can be found working video gigs, stage managing middle school theater, listening to music, or watching sports. Iselin Bratz, News Editor

Iselin Bratz (she/her) is a sophomore journalism major, political communications minor from Camden, Maine. When writing for the Beacon, Iselin covers news as a staff writer and has occasionally dabbled in other sections such as sports which she has won an EVVY for. Outside of the newspaper, she is also a writer and researcher for The Round Room podcast on campus. In the brief moments when she is not writing, you can find Iselin rowing on the Charles River or working on a new crochet project.

Arthur Mansavage, Photo Editor & Audience Development Editor

Arthur Mansavage (he/him) is a junior Journalism major from Carmel, Indiana. Currently he serves as the Photography Editor and Audience Development Editor. As the Photo Editor he oversees all photo content for online and in-print and as the Audience Development Editor he oversees and manages reader experience and engagement.

Anna Knepley, Sports Editor

Anna Knepley (she/her) is a sophomore political communications major from just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. She currently serves as the sports editor. Outside of the Beacon, she can be found writing for the CPLA newsletter and leading the Planned Parenthood Generation Action group at Emerson.
