A Penske delivery truck crashed in Chinatown yesterday, hospitalizing multiple people involved in the accident. The truck was overturned on the corner of Kneeland Street and Harrison Avenue.
“We don’t have any reason to believe that this was an intentional act,” Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said.
While the incident is still under investigation, WCVB has reported that the driver of the truck allegedly has a history of seizures.
“A number of the people, including the driver, are still in recovery,” Hayden said. “We’re a long ways away from making a determination in the case.”
Penske, the truck rental company the box truck was owned by, issued a statement online Tuesday afternoon acknowledging the incident, saying the truck that crashed was being rented to a commercial trucking company.

In a press conference after the crash, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said, “It is quite shocking to see the scene right now, the scale of damage.” She added that trauma personnel would visit residents and businesses close to the crash.

The district attorney’s office is investigating the incident to determine if anyone is held liable, according to Hayden.

“This easily could have been a far worse circumstance given the time of day and how many people tend to be in this area,” Hayden said at the press conference. “So in many ways we’re fortunate, but we continue to keep those who are injured, particularly the person in critical condition, in our thoughts and prayers.”
