Students living in the W Boston hotel lost wifi early Thursday evening, due to an internet outage in the area.
Students living in the hotel received an email from the Office of Housing and Residential Education at 10:01 p.m., hours after students first reported the issue. College officials are working to resolve the outage, the email said, attributing the issue to the hotel’s internet provider, Verizon.
A Verizon coverage map reported a small outage in the downtown Boston area, beginning around 5 p.m.
“We understand that students are heavily depending on the ability to use the wifi, and have both Emerson and W Boston staff working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” the email from OHRE reads.
Students reported the issue in a Facebook group for students living in the W, some saying they were kicked out of online Zoom classes.
“Is the wifi not working for anyone else??” a post in the group reads. “It’s a bit stressful with midterms going on and the [presidential] debate on tonight”
Students have reported issues with the W’s wifi beginning in September.
An email from the college’s IT department at 2:38 p.m. Friday confirmed WiFi service was restored for all residents in the W.
A spokesperson for Verizon was not immediately available for comment.
