Christie Anglade will become the college’s next vice president of Student Affairs beginning Dec. 15, after temporarily serving the position for six months, President Jay Bernhardt announced Tuesday.
Anglade was selected by members of the search committee, led by Provost Alex Socarides and supported by executive search firm Witt/Kieffer.
As vice president, Anglade will continue to oversee staff and a portfolio focused on “supporting students’ experience, growth, and wellbeing,” Bernhardt said. Anglade will work closely with Bernhardt, the President’s Council, and campus partners to strengthen community engagement.
In July, Anglade replaced former Vice President Jim Hoppe who served the role for eight years, after he left to work as the senior vice president and dean for student affairs at Bowdoin College in Maine.
Anglade joined Emerson in 2019 as Director of Housing and Residential Education (HRE). In 2023, Anglade became the associate dean of campus life, overseeing HRE, Community Standards, and Student Engagement and Leadership.
Bernhardt highlighted that Anglade’s work as interim vice president of student affairs has been “instrumental in supporting our students through initiatives like EmersonTogether and the opening of the fitness center, fostering connection, resilience, and opportunities for strengthening our campus community.”
Before Emerson, Anglade worked in student affairs and campus life at other institutions, including Bentley University, Boston College, Michigan State University, and the University of New Haven. Anglade has a master’s in higher education and student affairs administration from the University of South Carolina; She also holds a B.A. in psychology from Western New England University.
Anglade expressed gratitude for being chosen as the permanent vice president of student affairs.
“Emerson is filled with talented students, faculty, and staff who inspire me every day with their creativity, passion, and commitment to making a difference,” Anglade said. “Together, we will work to strengthen our community, ensuring it is a place where everyone feels supported, valued, and empowered to thrive. I am excited to continue building connections and creating opportunities that reflect the heart and soul of Emerson.”
